The system in this room was simple—it contained few components—but it sounded oh so organic. It consisted of a pair of Bowers & Wilkins 805 D4’s ($12,000/pair) from the company’s flagship 800 Series Diamond range—the Diamond designation referring to the model’s diamond dome tweeter.
If the words diamond tweeter make you imagine a hard, crystalline sound, banish the thought. Fed by a Marantz Model 10 integrated amplifier ($22,000) and a Link 10n streamer/DAC/preamp ($17,000), with cabling and power conditioning by AudioQuest, the sound was imbued with natural warmth, tonal density, a harmonically rich bass foundation, and a hypnotic sense of flow. Vocals were captivating, free of artificial sibilance or mechanical edge, while instruments conveyed the character of their materials.
