Following the success of Pure Cello and Les 9 de Montréal, Canadian cellist and composer Vincent Bélanger unveils his most intimate and emotional recording to date — Songe. A luminous dialogue between voice and strings, Songe explores the fragile line between dream and awakening, emotion and silence.

Synopsis — Songe

The dream begins with the harp, awakening light within silence. Its shimmering strings open a world suspended between reality and reverie. Then the cello enters — joined by the double bass and violin — weaving with the heartbeat of emotion, from depth to tenderness. Soon, a voice appears — like a ray of light — bringing warmth and humanity to the dream’s horizon. Together, they form Songe: a journey from solitude to communion, from silence to sound, where music becomes the language of the soul.

About the Ensemble

Songe‘s ensemble represents not only a meeting of exceptional musicians, but also a story of lasting friendships and artistic trust. Violinist Véronique Turcotte has shared the stage and studio with Vincent for nearly thirty years — their musical dialogue shaped by time, intuition, and deep mutual understanding. Double bassist Étienne Lafrance has been a pillar of Vincent’s projects since Les 9 de Montréal in 2019, his sound embodying both strength and grace. The discovery of harpist Annabelle Renzo marked a turning point in the project. Her sensitivity and musical imagination inspired a new balance within the ensemble — so much so that Songe opens with “Solitude,” the very first work by Vincent Bélanger written for solo harp, and the first piece in which the cello remains silent. Together, these artists form more than an ensemble — they form a constellation of kindred spirits united by sincerity, emotion, and shared purpose.

Production and Sound

Recorded at Église Saint-Benoît de Mirabel, Québec, Canada — whose exceptional acoustics became the sixth instrument of the ensemble — Songe captures the organic dialogue between instruments and space. Every nuance — from the softest resonance of the harp to the deep warmth of the double bass — was shaped to reveal the full dimension of the sound. The recording and mix were led by Léon Fu and Louis Morneau, whose meticulous approach brought life and sonic transparency to each performance. Final mastering was realized by Pranas Gudaitis in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The project was developed in collaboration with Jay Lee, audiophile producer and content creator from the renowned YouTube channel Jay’s Iyagi, who contributed his expertise and passion for sound realism throughout the process. Within just a few weeks of its release, audiophiles around the world have praised the recording for its purity, realism, and emotional depth. A vinyl edition is planned for mid-2026, to complement the high-resolution digital and CD versions. Songe is available now on all major streaming platforms and for purchase at www.VBMP.info.
