Toronto Home of Audiophile demoed a Pass Labs–powered system with Gershman’s Grand Avant Garde speakers, delivering detailed, tactile sound with liquid tone, vivid colour, and supple bass.
Retailer Toronto Home of Audiophile was showing a musically engaging setup consisting of a 250Wpc class-A Pass Labs X250.8 power amp ($17,325), a Pass Labs XP12 preamp ($9999), a Lumin U2 network streaming transport ($7500), a Melco N100-H50 audiophile grade music storage device (NAS) ($4495), a Weiss Engineering 501 Mk 2 DAC with built-in DSP and headphone amp ($16,495), and a pair of Gershman Acoustics Grand Avant Garde 30th Anniversary speakers ($19,999/pair). Cabling used a mix of Siltech and Gutwire, the latter also providing power conditioning.
Other items being demoed but not in operation when I was there were a 25Wpc class-A Pass Labs XA25 power amp (S8499), an Accuphase DP-570 SACD/CD player ($14,999), and a 25Wpc class-A First Watt F7 power amp ($5999).
The resulting sound was tactile and detailed, with a slightly sweet, liquid tone, vivid colours, an engaging flow, and supple, full-bodied bass lines.
