Tanchjim 4U DMT-4: Overview

The Tanchjim 4U is an extremely affordable in-ear monitor (IEM), boasting a trendy double-chamber dynamic driver design and a unique 4-way adjustable circuit filter system that allows audiophiles to adjust the bass response. In addition, the driver unit is optimized for enhanced sound reproduction with a rigid yet flexible LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) composite diaphragm. The 4U also has a comfortable design with a beautiful mirror finish.

Despite the option to select between four levels of bass response, overall, the 4U still delivers a balanced and detailed sound signature. As a matter of fact, the โ€œ4Uโ€ is something of a play on words since you have four ways to tailor the soundโ€ฆ you guessed it, โ€œFor Youโ€. This, combined with its impressive build quality and sleek design, makes this $99.99 IEM an intriguing option in the sub-$100 earphone market. Read on to see if this earphone is one you should put in your collection.

Tanchjim 4U Review Pros:

  • Unique bass-tuning filter switch for personalized listening
  • Harmonious and natural sound signature
  • Comfortable and ergonomic fit
  • Detachable 0.78mm 2-pin cable
  • Stylish and durable build quality
  • Excellent value for its price point

The Tanchjim 4Uโ€™s double-chamber dynamic driver enhances overall sound quality, delivering a refined listening experience. Its unique bass-tuning filter (switchable via an included tool) allows users to adjust the low-frequency response to their preferences, making it a versatile option for different genres and listening tastes. The tuning options range from Atmosphere > Pop > Natural > Monitoring, with Atmosphere having the most bass response and Monitoring having the least.

As I alluded to in the overview, none of the filters will give you an enormous amount of bass since the tuning always trends toward the measured side. However, thereโ€™s a clear bump in low-frequency warmth between the Atmosphere (most bass) and Monitoring (least bass), with the latter giving you a crisp old-school stereo reference style sound.

That said, I like how the overall harmonious and natural sound signature ensures a balanced and enjoyable experience across all frequencies, no matter which filter you select. Additionally, the ergonomic, comfortable fit allows for extended listening sessions without discomfort.

Tanchjim 4U Review Cons:

  • Cable might be slightly thin for some users
  • Bass tuning might not be drastic enough for some

While the Tanchjim 4U excels in many areas, a few minor drawbacks exist. The included cable, while functional, might feel slightly thin to some users. On the other hand, they are somewhat tangle-resistant and donโ€™t make a lot of noise, which is good. Additionally, the bass-tuning filter, while a unique feature, might not offer a drastic enough change for those seeking extreme low-frequency adjustments.

Tanchjim 4U Review Sound Performance:

The Tanchjim 4U delivers a captivating sonic experience with its double-chamber dynamic driver design. The sound signature is primarily characterized by its clarity and detail retrieval, particularly in the midrange and treble frequencies. Vocals are presented with remarkable accuracy and nuance, allowing listeners to discern the subtle intricacies of each performance.

The treble is crisp and extended, adding a sense of airiness and spaciousness to the soundstage without becoming harsh or sibilant. Bass response is punchy and well-defined but can be adjusted to user preference through the unique 4-level adjustable circuit filter system. This allows for a personalized listening experience, tailoring the low-end impact to suit individual tastes and musical genres. While the overall tuning is slightly V-shaped (a frequency response where bass and treble are more pronounced than the midrange), the 4U maintains a good sense of balance and coherence, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of musical styles.

Conversely, while I enjoy the airy, balanced approach of the 4U, especially through the midrange, some folks may wish for just a bit more bass slam, especially when listening to dance and hip-hop. For me, this IEM, in its โ€œAtmosphereโ€ setting, which provides the most bass response, suffices in this area.

Who Should Buy This:

  • Audiophiles and music enthusiasts seeking a balanced and detailed sound signature
  • Those who prefer a customizable listening experience with adjustable bass
  • Individuals looking for a comfortable and well-built IEM
  • Anyone in search of a high-value IEM in its price range

The Tanchjim 4U should work for a wide range of listeners, from audiophiles seeking accuracy and detail to casual listeners who value comfort and versatility. Its balanced sound signature, customizable bass, and comfortable fit make it an excellent choice for many different music genres and preferences.

Conclusion:

The Tanchjim 4U IEM stands out as an impressive option in its price range, offering a balanced sound signature, customizable bass, and comfortable fit. Itโ€™s a versatile and well-rounded IEM that caters to both audiophiles and casual listeners, making it a worthy addition to any music loverโ€™s collection.
