Remembering John Mayall: His Final ‘Room to Move’ Performance

John Mayallโ€™s last show took place on March 26, 2022, at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California. This performance marked the end of a remarkable 65-year touring career. During this final concert, Mayall, who was 88 years old, performed with his band, which included Greg Rzab on bass, Jay Davenport on drums, and Carolyn Wonderland on guitar and vocals. The final song of the evening was a powerful rendition of โ€œRoom to Move,โ€ a track that has been a significant part of Mayallโ€™s repertoire over the years.

When asked about his career highlights, John Mayallโ€™s humility and gratitude shone through: โ€œI donโ€™t really have any favorites. Iโ€™ve just enjoyed playing with different people because of what they bring to the palette. Iโ€™ve been very lucky that people enjoyed the music Iโ€™ve played, so all of my memories have a special place.โ€ His dedication to blues and continuous efforts to keep the music fresh made him a revered figure in the music world, his contributions left an indelible mark on the genre, and his final show was a fitting end to a storied career.
